Locating Your Area Shelter

The simplest starting point would be your local telephone directory. When locating an animal shelter, look under such listing in the yellow pages as "humane society", "animal control" or "animal shelters". Animal care agencies are often listed under their city or county name, the city or county health department or your local police department. Just remember that all shelters, regardless to how they are listed in the book, are there and full of wonderful animals waiting to find a loving and caring home.

Visit the Humane Society's official website online at www.hsus.org. They have wonderful information regarding animals and their rights.

Remember that if your pet should become lost, the local newspapers, shelters and flyers/signs are your best ways to locate your pet. You will want to immediately notify your local shelters and your vet should your pet get lost or stolen.

Of course, we suggest that pets always wear some collar identification tag, but in addition you can identify your pet in other ways. Mitzi was tattooed as a very young puppy by a wonderful organization called the American Pet Association (APA). What this organization does is once your pet is tattooed with a member/identification number by your veterinarian, the APA inputs this information into their system. This means your pet has a lifeline of information should they become lost or stolen. Please contact your local veterinarian about the APA program. Also, you can read more about this wonderful organization online at www.apapets.org. Please take measures to insure the safe return of your loved one, by making sure they have identification to speak for them. So many times pets found have no collar or tags.

At MitziDog.com, we support controlling the pet population. Please be a responsible pet owner and have your pet spade or neutered. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Thank You.

If you know of a good website that caterers to pets and their owners, please contact us at MitziDog.com so that we may add them to our site.
